Benefits of Membership
What are the benefits of membership in the Lee County Genealogical Society?
| |
|
Membership is open to individuals at
all levels of genealogical experience. Meeting with others who
share an interest in genealogy is fun as well as informative. Monthly
meetings generally are held on the third Thursdays at 1:00 PM at
a pre-determined location. Quarterly Saturday morning meetings
generally are held on the second Saturday of March, May, September
and November at 10:00 a.m. so members who work can participate. At
both meetings, a brief business session is followed by a time for
members and guests to network with meeting attendees, then a presentation
of helpful research concepts, topics of genealogical interest or
historical information to supplement members’ research is
given. Guests are always welcome. Click
here for
a directions to the next meeting. |
| |
|
|
| |
|
Members also have opportunities for networking
by attending the special interest
groups held
in various locations in the Fort Myers area. These informal discussion
groups are a forum for sharing research, asking questions and problem
solving. Enjoy the friendship of people who share your concerns,
needs and interests, and who will delight in your research progress. |
| |
|
|
| |
|
A quarterly newsletter called The Scribe
is mailed to members in March, June, September and December. It contains
articles of interest to researchers on a variety of current topics,
announces future programs, and provides helpful hints on computer
research. |

The Lee County Genealogical Society,
providing an opportunity to learn from the experts, sponsors an
annual seminar. Past
seminars have drawn participants from across the state of Florida. |

|
|
| |
|
Organized field trips to libraries or genealogical
seminars in other cities are offered periodically. |

All current members of the Lee County
Genealogical Society are invited to submit a listing of surnames
they are researching for display in our Surname
List on our website.
Surnames and places are spelled exactly as each member requests,
which may lead to multiple entries if the surname or location has
been found to be spelled various ways. No first names are included.
If a non-LCGS member requests contact with a member, that request
will be forwarded to our member who has the responsibility to reply
directly to the requestor for information. |

The LCGS Executive Board has decided
to make our collection of compact disks (CDs) available for members
to borrow for use at home on a lending library basis. The list
of these CDs can be viewed at CD Lending
Library - Members Only. At
general meetings, members have an opportunity to meet with our lending
librarian to check out these CDs for personal use. |

LCGS has entered into various partnerships
to benefit members and the Society as a whole.
The Amazon.com Associates Program allows visitors to our website
to link to Amazon.com. This link is found on various web pages
through our website especially where we recommend books to help
with your research. Purchases made at Amazon.com by that visitor
will result in a referral fee for our Society. Please remember
to visit Amazon.com through our website for any of your shopping
needs.
As a partner with the Federation of Genealogical
Societies (FGS) and the Family Tree Magazine fund raising program, members help
to support FGS member societies across the country. Working
with Family Tree Magazine, “America’s #1 family history
magazine,” FGS has arranged a special subscription program
for both new subscriptions and renewals, whereby Family Tree Magazine
will donate half of the $24 subscription with $6 going to FGS and
$6 to our Society. |
